Illegal construction on state land goes unabated in Kangan, officials in slumber

Ganderbal, Jul 9: The tall claims of Governor Administration that it has initiated action against encroachers of state land have fallen flat as some of the alleged land-grabbers have encroached the state land and Kahcharai land in Kangan area of Ganderbal district.
Locals said that the land grabbers have started illegal construction in Tehsil Gund of Ganderbal district.
As per locals, the illegal construction on state land spread over kanals in the close vicinity of the Nallah Sindh in Gagangeer area of Tehsil Gund and all along the Srinagar-Leh highway has been raised on the state land and Kahcharai land with revenue and I&FC department watching as mute spectators.
They alleged that there is great nexus between Revenue officials and the land grabbers in Tehsil Gund and that is why the encroacher has started illegal construction despite senior civil and police officials visiting Baltal base camp every day.
“We also informed concerned Pathwari and Naib Tehsildar Gund about this illegal construction but they are turning a blind eye over the matter,” residents said.
They further said that there is strong resentment among the locals over the matter and it shall encourage others to encroach the state land throwing into winds the claims of government to save state land from encroachers.
When contacted I&FC officials admitted that they had demolished the illegal construction at Gagangeer however encroacher has raised it again during night hours.
They said the department will look into the matter.
Meanwhile, locals demanded intervention of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal and J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik to save the land from encroachments and illegal constructions. (KNS)
