Militant killed in Nowgam encounter

Budgam, Jun 28: A militant was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Kanipora area of Nowgam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday morning.
A police spokesman said that on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and Forces in Kralpora Checkpora area of Central Kashmir’s district Budgam.
During the search operation, militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, a militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter. The identity and affiliation of the killed militant is being ascertained,” he said adding that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.
Authorities blocked the mobile Internet service in Budgam soon after the gunfight broke out early morning.
A 30 year old youth sustained critical bullet wounds near the encounter site when clashes broke out between protesters and the Forces after the culmination of encounter. Reports said that the youth took to streets and clashed with the forces near the encounter site and its adjoining areas including Khanpora Nowgam. The police and paramilitary CRPF used pellets, tear smoke shells and some live ammunition to disperse them resulting in the injuries to three persons.
Besides, one youth namely Shabir Ahmad son of Muhammad Ashraf of Chakapora, Kanapora was admitted in SMHS hospital Srinagar.
According to doctors, Shabir had sustained bullet wound in his lower abdomen and is being operated upon. (CNS)
