DC inaugurates ‘one bottle one plant’ initiative at GHSS Kulgam

Kulgam, Jun 18: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Shameem Ahmad Wani today kick-started a novel initiative, “One bottle one plant” under “Ek Prithvi” project of WWF-India at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Kulgam.
The programme was recently launched by the Directorate of School Education in collaboration with WWF-India.
On the occasion, the school authorities briefed the DDC that cold drink bottles will be used in making the vertical culinary, fruit, herbal, and ornamental walls. Every student of the institution is supposed to plant a sapling of his/her choice in the bottle, which have student’s name, roll number, class on it, and the student would take care of the bottle throughout the academic session.
DDC applauded the efforts of the school authorities for introducing such novel initiative and said that such initiatives have a great significance in present scenario.
Giving details of the programme, the Principal of the school said that the program while turning the school fencing green would greatly help in minimizing the wastes and utilize the same for the protection of the environment. The Principal further added that the act would help in grooming the future environment leaders and would also inculcate sense of belongingness among other students.
DDC later inspected various blocks of the school and also take stock of developmental works in the school.
