Prominent Kashmiri poet wins Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar

Srinagar, Jun 14: Prominent Kashmiri poet and author, Sagar Nazir, has won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar 2019 for his book Thaer Angnech — a collection of poetry — in Kashmiri language category.
Expressing happiness over his nomination for Yuva Puraskar given by Sahitya Akademi, Mr Nazir said it is an honour that his work has been recognized and awarded by the Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters. “Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Yuva Puraskar 2019 in 23 languages, including Kashmiri, on Friday. My Book is among 11 books of poetry, six short stories books, five novels, and one literary book, who have won the award this year,” Nazir said.
Nazir, who is a young prominent Kashmiri poet, critic, cultural activist and translator, has penned down many hit Kashmiri songs which are among the list of frequent songs played on Radio Kashmir Srinagar.
Born in a modest family at Chukar Paatan, Baramullah, Nazir has attained fame and become a household name through his popular poetry. He has given many Super-hit Kashmiri songs among which Bang-e-drayok Changi Maa Aakhey, Che Praran Moj Chay, Rajih Malyun, Mae Chu Chon Muhabbat Yaad Pewaan are very famous.
Besides Thaer Angnech, Nazir has authored many books, including Pehli Mohabbat, Zoon Mouj (children special), Panjrich Haer. He has also translated dozens of books in which Aeneh-te-Anhar, Ashqich Wath, Bal Ches Praran, Machil khaab, Khaab, Loleh Baag, Kulyat-e-Makhmoor and Nooreh Wath are prominent.
Nazir said he is trying his best to review and promote the Kashmiri language and culture for which he has established a cultural forum — Sagar Cultural Forum. “Under this forum, I would try my best to serve the Kashmiri language and culture,” he added.
