Stray dogs on prowl

Stray dogs have unleashed fear across Kashmir. There are hundreds of stray dogs on prowl across the Valley. And the shortage of anti-rabies vaccines has added to the miseries of people.
None of the plans of the government to control the population of canines in Kashmir have worked. It seems there is no available solution with the government. The people at the helm seem clueless about how to tackle this menace. Stray dogs menace has assumed an alarming proportion in the Srinagar city as people fear to venture out of their homes even during the day time. Children and old aged people have been the worst victims of these stray dogs.
People have been alleging that Srinagar Municipal Corporation has failed miserably to tackle the ever growing menace of the stray dogs in the Srinagar city. Whenever residents of any area build the pressure on the authorities to act against the stray dogs, the people at the helm shift these dogs from one area to another to pacify the people.
Many people believe that administration has left the people of Kashmir at the mercy of stray dogs. It’s unfortunate that people at the helm are least bothered about the hardships being faced by the common people. Till date lot of money has been spent on sterilization of these canines but it has hardly had any difference and the population of these stray dogs has multiplied during the past few years. These dogs moving in packs have made the humans more vulnerable. There have been instances where packs of dogs have attacked the human beings and have left them in moribund condition. Shortage of anti-rabies vaccines has made the things worse. One hopes that authorities wake up to this crisis and address this burning issue so that people can feel safe and secure.
