Weather turns pleasant in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jun 7: Weather turned pleasant on Friday after recording below normal temperature due to intermittent rain for the past couple of days in Kashmir valley, where upper heights of world famous ski resort of Gulmarg received fresh light snowfall early this week.
However, a fresh spell of wet weather is predicted in the valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which will hit the region on June 10.
A Met department spokesperson said that isolated light rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 48 hours in Kashmir valley. “The weather will remain dry on Sunday,” he said, adding a fresh WD, which originated from the Arabian Sea, will hit the region on June 10.
He said a weather warning has been issued for June 10 and June 11, when isolated rain, thundershowers and lightening with gusty winds of 30/40 km/hr would occur.
After witnessing intermittent rain during the last couple of days, bright sunshine greeted tourists, including foreigners, at Gulmarg, where ski slopes are still covered under several feet of snow at the upper reaches, including Khilanmarg and Affarwat, the highest ski point connected by Cable Car. “Affarwat received fresh light snowfall on Tuesday night, resulting in considerable dip in the temperature. Tourists are enjoying a sunny day in Gulmarg. Tourists are enjoying different activities,” a hotelier said.
People were seeing basking in sun in the summer capital, Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures were several degrees below normal due to intermittent incessant rain during the last couple of days. After chilly Friday morning, the weather turned pleasant as sun came out from behind the clouds.
The spokesperson said skies will be mainly clear to very light rain and thundershowers during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 28 degree and 11 degree, respectively.
Bright sunshine also greeted people, including tourists, at world famous tourist resort of Pahalgam after receiving intermittent incessant rain during the past couple days.
Weather also turned pleasant in other places in the valley, including Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kokernag.
