Congress in dire straits

The Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir is in serious trouble as the party has failed to win a single parliamentary seat in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh again. In 2014, Congress lost both the seats in Jammu and one in Ladakh and in 2019 the history was repeated.
The Congress heavyweight Ghulam Ahmed Mir, whom many people expected to win from Anantnag Parliamentary constituency too ended on the losing side. Mir carried out an intensive campaign in volatile areas of south Kashmir and left no stone unturned to corner his opponents but his magic did not work. Other Congress candidates in Jammu and Ladakh regions had to bite the dust as they couldn’t handle the Modi wave 2.0.
Many people believe that forthcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir won’t be easy for the Congress and the party would have to strive hard to remain alive on the fast changing political stage of the state.
The results of 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir have spelled doom for the Congress as well as the Peoples Democratic Party. The Bharatiya Janata Party and National Conference are on a song. The BJP has managed to keep its constituency intact while the NC has made a strong comeback.
The debacle of the Congress in the state has triggered unrest within the party as the local leaders are looking towards greener pastures. A few Congress leaders have already tendered their resignations, while some are mulling to do the same. The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief G A Mir would have to work really hard to keep his flock together as the dissent within the party ranks is an open secret. In Jammu BJP leaders are calling the shots. In Kashmir Congress stands cornered and decimated.
