With Cong, PDP falling flat, PC opens channels with many leaders in north Kashmir

Srinagar, May 29: As the Congress is grappling with leadership crises following a humiliating Lok Sabha whitewash in the state, the People’s Conference has extended olive branches to many disgruntled Congress and PDP leaders in the valley particularly in north Kashmir and is keen to bring them into party fold before the upcoming assembly elections.
The Sajad Lone led People’s Conference have opened back channels with many Congress and PDP leaders in north Kashmir and has began intense negotiations with these leaders albeit secretly.
A news agency has learnt from reliable sources that a close aid of Sajad Lone dropped at the Sopore residence of Congress leader and former MLA Shoib Nabi Lone a few days back and conveyed him the chairman’s desire to join his party.
The meeting lasted for many hours but remained inconclusive as Lone – according to sources- did not give an immediate assurance but at the same time did not even out rightly rejected the offer too.
According to sources, lone was also contacted by some senior leaders of PC on phone however, it was not clear immediately what transpired between them. Though Shoiab Lone could not be contacted personally, his close aid confirmed that PC was in touch with the former MLA and said they (PC) were keen to field him from Sangrama Constituency.
“Yes, PC leaders have been calling him from last several days and someone had even met him personally, but Shoiab hasn’t taken any decision as yet.” a close aid of Shoaib Lone said wishing not to be named.
Meanwhile the Peoples’ conference is also in touch with at least one more Congress and some PDP leaders also in north Kashmir. Sources said that at-least five PDP leaders are being approached by the party in north Kashmir. However, it was not known whether any of them has actually shown willingness to desert his camp and walk over to PC.
If sources are to be believed, the coming days would be very important in the political landscape of north Kashmir where some major political activities are taking place. (RNA)
