End of road for PDP?

End of road for PDP?

Peoples Democratic Party patron, Muzaffar Baig, spelling out failures of his party leaders has opened a Pandora’s box. Baig the senior most leader of the PDP reportedly lashed out his party colleagues during the party meeting in Srinagar. He blamed them for party’s debacle in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
He asked them to acknowledge that the party failed to deliver on the mandate it had won the last Assembly elections. Baig, who was considered to be a very close aide of late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was not given any prominent role in the government led by Mehbooba Mufti. He was virtually sidelined by the party leadership from 2014 onwards. After the death of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Muzaffar Baig stood by Mehbooba Mufti had played a pivotal role in re-stitching the alliance between the PDP and BJP again. At that point of time everyone was of the opinion that the Mehbooba would give a bigger role to Baig in the government as well as the party. But it didn’t happen.
After being sidelined by the PDP, Muzaffar Baig had announced that he would be joining the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone. But before Baig could make his next move, Mehbooba visited his home and pacified him and announced that he would be the PDP patron. But by then it was too late, the BJP had pulled the rug beneath the Mehbooba’s feet and had said goodbye to her.
At this point of time the PDP stands at crossroads as many of its leaders have walked out and few have been expelled. There are speculations that some more PDP leaders are looking towards green pastures and the recent dismal results of the Lok Sabha elections have put the party leadership in quandary. Many people believe that for time being road has ended for the PDP.
