DC discusses strategy for disposal of Solid waste in Udhampur Town with DLSTF

Udhampur, May 10: District Development Commissioner, Dr Piyush Singla, convened a meeting with District Level Special Task Force under National Green Tribunal Municipal Solid Waste Management rules 2016, to discuss and devise strategy for disposal of Solid waste in Udhampur Town here yesterday.
Threadbare discussion was held regarding various aspects of Solid Waste Management plan like present status of Garbage disposal, installation of water point, minimizing use of plastic, plastic seizures, ban on polythene in melas, set up of segregation in rural areas, constitution of ward level committees and awareness generation groups, etc.
DDC asked the Municipality and Pollution Control Board to intensify market checking to seize banned polythene material. He also asked the education department to educate students about the hazardous effects of pollution created by the solid waste.
The DDC asked the CEO Municipality to start awareness activities at ward level in collaboration with the help of NGOs. He also directed him to install dustbins at prominent places.
Additional District Development Commissioner, Ashok Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurvinderjeet Singh, GM DIC, Suram Chand Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Development, Neelam Khajuria, Auqaf Administrator, Er Sajad Bashir Somberia, District Social Welfare Officer, Sana Khan, Chief Education Officer, Daljit Singh and other district officers of various departments besides representatives of different NGOs and members of civil society attended the meeting.
