Missing Kangan youth held with arms, ammunition: Police

Kangan, May 3: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday claimed to have arrested missing Kangan youth today along with arms & ammunition.
In a statement issued here a police spokesman said that on a credible input, Handwara police along with government forces intercepted a person at a checkpoint near Chowgal and took him into custody. “Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from his possession.” He said.
The spokesman said that the arrested person, Shafat Yousuf Malik son of Mohammad Yousuf Malik resident of Thune, Kangan of District Ganderbal was provided with arms & ammunition by a militant group and was on way to join proscribed militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen. “As such, he has been restrained from joining the militant outfit.” the spokesman added.
He said that a case FIR No. 87/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered at P/S Handwara. Further investigation into the matter is going on.
