With just few days left for the last phase of Parliamentary elections in Anantnag constituency in south Kashmir, PDP chief and party’s candidate, Mehbooba Mufti, is making last ditch efforts to garner votes.
She knows it very well that Shopian and Pulwama districts in south Kashmir going to polls in the last leg of the three phased parliamentary elections in Anantnag constituency hold the key.
During past few days she has been addressing the election rallies in these districts and is assuring the people that she won’t let them down. She has apologized for her “toffee and milk” remark. She has announced that she would never ally with the BJP again. But she seems to have forgotten that she fought 2014 elections for keeping the BJP away from Kashmir. But at the end she joined hands with the same party which she had opposed.
Mehbooba as J&K Chief Minister used to leave no opportunity to praise the BJP and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But BJP pulling out from the PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir turned Mehbooba furious and she tried to shift entire blame on the saffron party. But she has forgotten that memory of people is not that short lived and they remember it very well that she (Mehbooba) was the head of the PDP-BJP government in the state. Her rhetoric won’t make much difference.
It appears that Mehbooba is hoping against the hope that people in these districts would come out and vote for her. The election rallies addressed by her during the past weeks in these districts have not drawn any crowds. Mood of the people depicts that she won’t be able to get many votes in these areas. And her ship is sinking.
