Srinagar, May 1: Scores of casual labourers working in Tourism department on Wednesday held a protest at Director Tourism office here, demanding release of their pending wages.
Fayaz Ahmad, President of the association said that their salaries are pending since 2014 floods. “We requested our Director and department many a times but nobody listened to our pleas,” Fayaz said.
According to Fayaz, orders directing release of wages was issued on October 24, 2018, and another order was issued for the same on January 1, 2019, however, orders were never followed.”
Director Tourism along with Commissioner Secretary Tourism asked us to submit the attendance promising salaries soon but all in vein,” protesting casual labourers rued, claiming that orders for releasing wages was issued against mere 14 casual labourers while 328 such employees have been ignored.
“Our families are being pushed towards starvation,” they rued. They urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to look into the matter and release their salaries pending since five years so that they could have a sigh of relief. (KNO)
