Mehbooba’s cavalcade pelted with stones in south KashmirOmar condemns attack

Srinagar, Apr 15: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti’s cavalcade was pelted with stones in Sirhama village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
Reports said Mufti was heading towards Bijbehara to attend a workers’ convention after paying obeisance at Khiram shrine when her cavalcade came under a barrage of stones at Sirhama.
An official said that Mufti escaped unhurt in the attack but one of her escort vehicles suffered damage.
He said that the police cordoned off the area and provided a safe passage to Mufti who later reached Bijbehara where she is scheduled to address a workers’ convention.
Mufti, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, is the PDP candidate for Anantnag parliamentary constituency which will go to polls in three phase from April 23.
Meanwhile, National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday condemned attack on his political rival Mehbooba Mufti president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in which driver of one of the car was injured in Anantnag today.
Former Chief Minister Omar also wishes injured SSG security person speedy recovery.
Omar was reacting to media report that former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti’s cavalcade was attacked on Monday by stone-pelters in Anantnag district. The PDP president was unhurt. One of the spare vehicles in the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister’s motorcade, was damaged during the stone-pelting, which left the driver hurt.
Taking to micro-blogging site twitter Omar said “ Most unfortunate. We condemn this attack & send our best wishes to her injured SSG security person for a speedy recover”.
