Soz welcomes Cong commitment to open dialogue in Kashmir, review AFSPA

Srinagar, Apr 4: Welcoming Congress commitment to open dialogue and review Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA)
In Kashmir, former union minister Prof Saifuddin Soz on Thursday said use of force is only a futile exercise of power which will remain counter productive for the union of India.
In a statement here Thursday afternoon senior Congress leader said “ “I had never imagined Amit Shah to be so ignorant and given to fascist thinking as I assessed through his vituperative criticism of Congress Party for its assertion that it would review AFSPA completely and open a dialogue in Kashmir”.
He said the general run of Indians, who respect democratic aspirations of citizens and concern for Human Rights, must denounce Shah’s design of politics, altogether. Time and again, Shah has proved that he is a ‘Gobalian propagandist’ having no time even to read the Hindi version of the AFSPA. If he had a modicum of interest in learning the facts, then he would have understood that the application of AFSPA in Jammu and Kashmir has worked as a double-edged sword – resulting in killing of thousands of Kashmiris and, at the same time, deepening alienation of Kashmiris against the Union of India!”, he said.
“Amit Shah may pretend that he doesn’t know that it was N Biren Singh, the BJP Chief Minister of Manipur, who had said vociferously that the AFSPA needed to be reviewed completely”, Soz added.
“My understanding is that, sooner than later, people like Amit Shah will understand that use of force in Kashmir is only a futile exercise of power which will remain counter-productive for the Union of India, eternally”, he said.
