Peoples Democratic Party has decided not to field any candidates from two Lok Sabha seats in Jammu region. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has claimed that her party is not fielding any candidates to ensure that secular votes are not divided.
She has said that the decision has been taken in wake of the “Mahghatbandhan” which is taking place all over the country to keep the BJP away from power.
It seems that PDP wants to keep all the options open and is hoping that if she supports Congress this time around, may be at some point of time the Congress may support her again to regain power in Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP pulling out of from the PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir in June last year left the PDP in midst and since then it has been grappling with number of issues. The party has got divided and its leaders stand scattered today.
When National Conference and Congress announced alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, they kept PDP out of it as the leaders of both the parties wanted to send a message that they have got nothing to do with PDP.
Mehbooba without naming Congress has hinted that she is not fielding any candidates for the sake of Congress party but the fact is that Congress has not responded. Nor it has acknowledged Mehbooba’s gesture.
PDP leader and former MLC Firdous Tak addressed a press conference in Jammu on Sunday and urged the party leadership to reconsider its decision. He was of the opinion that party should field the candidates from both Jammu seats.
It seems Tak by asking the PDP not to surrender these seats is an indication that if party sticks to its decision it could lead to more people revolting against the PDP and now in Jammu region.
