SMVDU organizes International Seminar on Sustainable Rural Development

Jammu, Mar 12: The School of Economics, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD),organized a one-day international seminar on “Sustainable Rural Development in India: Issues, Opportunities & Challenges”.
Sheetal Nanda, Special Secretary to the Government (Addl. charge of the post of Secretary to the Govt. Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj), graced the inaugural function. Adarsh Gupta, DDM, NABARD along with Prof. D Mukhopadhyay, Dean, Faculty of Management; Dr.Pabitra K. Jena, I/c Head School of Economics and Dr. Meenakshi Gupta, Seminar Director, attended the inaugural function. Eminent scientists, academicians, official representatives, women ministries, research scholars etc. were also present.
Prof D Mukhopadhyay appreciated the theme of the seminar and further added that since more or less 70% of Indian population lives in villages and earning of their livelihood depends on rural economy, the rural economic activities are of paramount importance.
Adarsh Gupta, DDM, NABARD, shed light on Rural Infrastructure Development Fund.
In her address, Sheetal Nanda briefed about the status of various ongoing schemes in the Rural Development Department and emphasized the need to empower the rural masses at the grass root level. The inaugural ceremony ended with a formal vote of thanks by Paras Dubey.
The event proceeded with a panel discussion followed by a parallel international technical SKYPE session. Continuing forward four parallel technical sessions took place. Towards the end of the event, in the valedictory session, in order to picturize the rich heritage of Jammu and Kashmir a Dogri dance was performed.
The valedictory session was graced by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Comm./Secretary Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment. The seminar was knitted in a thread at last with the National Anthem.
