Abdullahs, Mehbooba, Ors grieved

Srinagar, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a road accident in Sadhna Top in Karnah, North Kashmir.
Dr. Farooq while expressing grief over the incident said, “The long pending demand of the local residents of Karnah of having a tunnel at sadhna top is genuine. The people have from time to time hit roads to get their demand fulfilled; however the proposed construction of 6.5km sadhna pass tunnel that would connect the far-flung areas with the rest of state was unfortunately put into cold storage,” adding, “The incumbent governor administration should do a vulnerability assessment of the roads in the remote areas and employ necessary measures to stop such accidents from happening.”
Party vice president Omar Abdullah while expressing grief over the incident said, “The former BJP-PDP government miserably failed to pursue the project with government of India. The incumbent governor administration proved equally incompetent in meeting the demands of the far-flung areas of Karnah. I urge the incumbent governor administration to provide best of medical treatment to the injured.”
The duo has also extended condolences to the grieved families of the victims and an immediate realese of ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.
Former MLA Karnah Kafeel ur Rehman also condoled the death of three people in an accident at Sadhna Top. While expressing sympathies with the bereaved families, he demanded immediate construction of a tunnel connecting Karnah with rest of the state.
Meanwhile, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba mufti termed the tragedy yet another reminder on the urgency of having a tunnel between Kupwara and Karnah.
“Terrible news. My heart goes out to the families of the deceased. This tragedy is yet another reminder on the urgency of having a tunnel betwen kupwara and Karnah, a project that I pursued as the Chief Minister. Unfortunately, nothing seems to be moving Delhi on this issue,” Mehbooba wrote on her official Twitter handle.
Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone senior leader and parliamentary candidate from Baramulla Raja Aijaz Ali have expressed grief and sorrow over the death of three people due to an avalanche near Khoni Nallah at Sadhna Top and urged the Governor administration to extend all possible assistance to the bereaved families.
“Yet another accident claims three precious lives at Sadhna pass en route to Karnah. This pass has claimed hundreds of lives so far. A tunnel is a necessity to end the travails of inhabitants of Karnah”, Sajad Lone said while expressing grief over the incident.
Raja Aijaz also expressed sorrow over the incident and supported the demand for the tunnel to Karnah. “I am extremely pained to hear about the unfortunate loss of precious lives. I urge the administration to airlift the bodies to the native village of the deceased in Tangdhar and extend all possible help and announce ex gratia relief to the families of the deceased”, the spokesman quoted the leader as saying.
