Chennai, Mar 10: The Election Commission has allocated “battery torch” as the symbol for actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam for the coming Lok Sabha elections. The party was floated more than a year ago.
Though the party has been registered, it does not have a vote share and MLAs and MPs as it is yet to face any election. As per the EC rules, a party has to be registered and it has to be a recognised party to have a permanent separate symbol.
The Election Commission allocated symbols to 39 registered parties in the country, including MNM.
“MNM thanks the Election Commission for granting us the battery torch symbol for the forthcoming elections. So appropriate MNM will endeavour to be the torchbearer for a new era in TN and Indian politics,” tweeted Kamal.
