Srinagar, Mar 7: A complete shutdown was observed on Thursday in Maisuma and adjoining areas in civil lines Srinagar against slapping of Public Safety Act (PSA) on JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik and shifted him to Jammu.
A police spokesperson said there was no restriction in any part of Srinagar though security forces have been deployed in strength in Maisuma and adjoining areas as a precautionary measure to prevent protests.
Shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the road in Maisuma and adjoining Budshah Chowk. Security forces, wearing bullet proof jackets and holding weapons and lathis in their hands, were seen patrolling the streets in Maisuma to prevent any untoward incident.
However, reports of normalcy were received from other parts of the summer capital.
A JKLF spokesman said here on Thursday morning that Malik, who was arrested on February 22 from his Maisuma residence, has now been booked under PSA. He said Malik, who has been lodged at Kothibagh police station near here, will be shifted to Kotbalwal Jail, Jammu.
