Is something cooking?

Government has once again extended the winter break for schools. Now it has been announced that schools would reopen on March 11. The schools, according to the official circular, were closed due to inclement weather conditions. But weather is not that inclement. It seems something is cooking.
Many people believe that government taking random decisions during the past few days is an indication that something else is in offing. Political parties, civil society and traders are watching the developments keenly as the speculations are rife that special status of Jammu and Kashmir is under threat.Trade bodies have called for a shutdown in Kashmir on Tuesday against what they termed as “assault on Article 35A.” Prevailing uncertain situation in the Valley has added to the chaos and confusion. People are just assuming that something would happen but the administration has been assuring the people that everything is under control and they should not pay any heed towards the rumours.
The long winter break, which commenced in December last year is still continuing. Closure of schools has left the students disappointed. School children are asking their parents when would the educational institutions reopen but parents have no answers.Kashmir conflict has taken a heavy toll on the students as the educational institutions being closed off and on have hit the studies. The academic calendar has shrunk as the working days in schools have been cut drastically. People who can afford have sent their children out so that their careers don’t get ruined. But the ones who cannot afford have to wait till the schools reopen. People are hoping that situation won’t aggravate and things would fall at their place so that semblance of normalcy would return.
