Srinagar, Mar 1: CPI (M) on Friday termed ban on Jamaat-e-Islami as undemocratic step, saying it will not augur well for the society.
“CPI (M) doesn’t agree with the Government of India’s decision to ban Jamat-i-Islami. It is an undemocratic step which doesn’t augur well for the society,” the statement reads.
CPI (M) said even though they have fundamental differences with JeI but they also believe the decision to ban is politically motivated. “It has been done in the past and it has yielded nothing except aggravating the anger and we apprehend it is going to do the same again this time,” the statement added.
“The richness of democracy is dissent and the battle of ideas how contradictory they may be, but not bans and prohibitions,” it added. (KNS)
