Dr Farooq grieved over losses to people in Gurez avalanche

Srinagar, Feb 24: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Sunday expressed sorrow over damages to sixty structures including fifty five houses in a snow avalanche in Khandyal, Gurez.
Dr Farooq while expressing grief on the losses to people said, “The people of the village have undergone a worst nightmare. Thankfully there was no loss of lives in the incident as the villagers managed to move to the safer places,” adding, “I am given to know that the material loses to people of the village hit with an avalanche is immense. Nearly 55 houses, various shops and cow sheds have suffered damages due to the snow avalanche. Besides that various government installations including schools, anganwari centers, and PDC building have also been damaged in the unfortunate incident.”
Party president has impressed upon the district administration of Bandipura to recompense the losses to people and ensure that the exigencies arising after the avalanche incident are dealt with effectively. “I urge the incumbent governor administration to install avalanche detecting devices in the area that are prone to frequent avalanches in order to avoid loss of lives. I impress on the incumbent governor administration to depute team to the village to access the losses to people,” he said.
Dr. Farooq maintained that people in the far-flung areas are facing immense hardships following heavy snowfall. “Many arterials, inner routes are yet to be cleared of snow. I impress upon the administration to mitigate the woes of people in north Kashmir and Chenab region of the state at an earliest. The administration should maintain adequate stocks in the far-flung areas and ensure people all basic and effective amenities.” He said.
Meanwhile former Dy Speaker LA and senior party leader Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi is in constant touch with the administration in ensuring the affected all possible help from the government. (KNS)
