Stop targeting Kashmiris

Stop targeting Kashmiris

Kashmiri students and businessmen, who are staying in other states, are facing the heat of the mob violence. Attacks against Kashmiris started soon after a suicide bomber rammed into a bus carrying CRPF men at Lethpora on Srinagar-Jammu highway in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The suicide bombing triggered outrage across the country and all the anger was directed towards Kashmiris.
During the past few days Kashmiris, who are out of the Valley, don’t know why they are being targeted and what’s their fault? Kashmiri leaders are making appeals to ensure the safety of Kashmiris in other states but it seems that no one wants to listen to them. Many Kashmiris just want to return to the Valley. Newspaper officers are receiving calls from the Kashmiris, who are in other states. These callers are narrating their woeful tales and are looking towards the J&K government to come for their rescue. They are hoping that someone would intervene and save them.
In Jammu and Kashmir Governor’s administration has assured the people that all steps are being taken to protect Kashmiris but there are reports that people in many states are asking the Kashmiris to vacate and go back.
Communal elements are leaving no stone unturned to flare up the situation and suggestions are making rounds that Kashmiris should be boycotted. One of the Shiv Sena leaders has advised the people not to visit Kashmir and make people of Kashmir starve. Kashmiris, who during all these years have been treated as suspects, are now being targeted for the only reason that they are from the Valley. Being a Kashmiri has become a stigma for them. If persecution of Kashmiris continues it would further push the people of Kashmir away from rest of the country.
