Jammu, Feb 17: In view of curfew imposition for the third consecutive day here in the winter capital of the state, over 20 marriage functions were postponed.
Curfew was imposed here on Friday after violence erupted during a daylong Jammu shutdown called by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries to protest killings of 44 CRPF personnel in Pulwama attack.
Meanwhile people also rushed to the office of the District Magistrate (Deputy Commissioner) to get curfew passes to meet their urgent requirements in curfew hit town.
As per reports, around 20 marriage functions including ‘Barat’ ad receptions were postponed due to restrictions imposed in the city and outskirts of the district.
The banquet hall owners said that they had made all arrangements for the marriage ceremonies of their respective customers but in view of prevailing situation, they postponed their functions as it would not be possible for the guests to attend it.
“We have two functions in our banquet hall. One was on Saturday and another on Sunday night. One has been cancelled and another postponed,” an owner of a banquet hall here said.
He said that they have refunded some percent of the advance amount to the party that had cancelled the function while the second party, which has postponed their functions, will be accommodated accordingly depending upon their feasibility.
Many load carrier operators, have also refused to transport goods and items to the banquet halls in view of curfew, while many people who were arranging for functions were seen running pillar to post to get ‘curfew passes’ from the office of the District Magistrate.
As mobile internet services were snapped as precautionary measure, people were forced to resort to send text messages to their relatives and guests about cancellation of marriage functions.
