Security forces intensifies frisking, search operation in Srinagar

Srinagar, Feb 15: Security forces established nakas and intensified frisking and search operation in the summer capital, Srinagar following fidayeen attack on a CRPF vehicle in which 49 personnel were martyred and several others injured on the highway in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Thursday afternoon.
Even though security forces are already on high alert in the entire Kashmir valley, the fidayeen attack yesterday has taken security agencies by surprise though the intelligence agencies have warned of militant strike.
Security forces and state police personnel had put up road nakas in different parts of the city. Almost all vehicles, particularly two and three wheelers, were being searched properly and travelers being questioned and their identity cards checked before allowing them to go.
Random searches of pedestrians were also being conducted in different parts of the civil lines. We have instructions to conduct searches and frisking to foil any militant attempt to cause any disturbances, security forces at Budshah Chowk said.
Vehicle checking and frisking of people were also being conducted on Moulana Azad road, Airport road, historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, Jehangir Chowk, Bypass and other places.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the city to maintain law and order.
