Workshop on Climate Change Adaptation concludes at BIPRD, Lucknow

Lucknow, Feb 14: A three days write-shop on Climate Change Adaptation Planning and Implementation organised at Bankers Institute of Rural Development Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, as part of the Indian Himalayas Climate Adaptation Programme (IHCAP) Project, under the Global Programme Climate Change (GPCC) of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to enhance the knowledge about climate change issues in the Himalayan Region, concluded today. The programme was organised with the support of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and NAPCONS.
Representatives from all Himalayan States including, Jammu and Kashmir participated. J&K was represented by Jalid Riyaz Banday, Joint Director (Central), Soil and Water Conservation Department, Rajiv Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist, Agriculture Department, Dr. Mohammad Nayeem Shah, Senior Researcher, Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing J&K and Gowhar Jeelani, Disaster Management Professional from J&K State Disaster Management Authority.
The participants were familiarised with the relevant concepts like Situation Analysis, Scoping, Feasibility, Conceptualization, Logical Framework in order to integrate suitable environment friendly methods to carry out the developmental projects running in the States, so that risk factors arising from implementation of the projects can be mitigated well on time. The participants were made to perform group exercises including critical analysis of the projects from Jammu and Kashmir, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The participants were sensitized on how issues related to climate change can alter the nature and devastate the humans, as well as infrastructure. The participants shared their experiences on how humans should live in a better environment, without disturbing the nature.
The Chief Guest at the Valedictory function was T. S. Raji Gain, Director, Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow. She appreciated the efforts of the organisers for conducting such a program and also applauded the proactive participation of the participants. The Chief Guest also distributed certificates of participation amongst the participants.
