NEW DELHI: Rising star Babar Azam has been the standout performer for Pakistan in recent times. During the just-concluded Pakistan tour of South Africa, the 24-year-old proved again that he is the go-to man for the team after ending up as the top scorer in the T20I series and the second highest run-getter in the Test series.
And comparisons between him and Virat have been doing the rounds but he played them down.
During a promotional event ahead of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), Babar said that he is currently nowhere near Kohli in terms of performance. Praising the Indian skipper, Babar said that Kohli has achieved a lot in his career and he still has a long way to go.
“I often hear people comparing me with Kohli. But I feel that he is a great player. I am nowhere close to him at this point. I have just started. He has achieved a lot and I have to do the same. I will try to match up my performance to his level but as for now there is no comparison,” Babar said.
In Tests, Babar has 1235 runs to his name at an average of 35.29 while in the ODIs the 24-year-old averages over 51 with a total score of 2462.
Pakistan recently wrapped up a forgettable tour of South Africa. The Sarfraz Ahmed-led side suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the Test series.
In the ODI series, the visitors witnessed a 2-3 defeat while Pakistan lost the T20I series 1-2.
