Shopian, Feb 11: A special team constituted by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Owais Ahmed today undertook an extensive tour of snow bound areas of the district to inspect post snowfall operations by the departments for restoration of essential services and to take first hand appraisal of the issues being faced by the public.
The team comprising Addl. DDC Mohammad Salim Malik, ACD Zubair Shah and DSWO Mohammad Shafait visited District Hospital Shopian, various Municipal wards, Imam Sahib, Nagbal, Chitragam and Zainpora.
In the town, the team took stock of snow clearance on main roads, lanes and by lanes and discussed with civic body officials further widening of roads and lifting of snow from lanes. To ensure free flow of traffic in the town, the ADDC asked EO MC to immediately deploy men and machinery for further widening of roads for passage of two-way traffic besides lifting of snow from the town to ease movement especially during night hours.
At district hospital, the team inspected the wards and interacted with patients to get feedback about health care facilities being provided to them. The doctors informed that there is sufficient medical supply to cater to the visiting patients. They also intimated about issues like disruption in water supply to various wards of hospital and clearance of snow in its premises for which immediate directions were passed to concerned for doing the needful.
At Imam Sahib, the team visited PHC Imam Sahib which was found locked by the team which later took appraisal of public issues.
While complimenting PDD for timely restoration of power, the public complained about non-restoration of water supply to Rather Mohalla and Woyan besides shifting of a doctor from PHC ImamSahib to another place which led to shortage of staff at the PHC. It was also given out that 85% of priority and link roads are cleared of snow.
At Zainpora, the ADDC reviewed restoration work with concerned sectoral officers including SDM Sayid Ahmad, Tehsildar Chitragam and engineers of various departments. It was given out that of 23 disrupted Water Supply Schemes, 6 have been partially restored whereas restoration work on other 17 was delayed due to discharge of Service Reservoirs. Taking serious note of delay and inconvenience to the public, the ADDC asked the SDM to constitute an interdepartmental team to look if the reason given for delay is genuine and submit report for further action in the matter. The meeting was also informed that all Lift WSSs are restored except Lift WSS at Manzipora due to delay in repair of its submersible motor. The matter was brought into notice of concerned engineer of mechanical wing for urgent action.
Meanwhile several public deputations met the team and apprised about the issues they are facing due to snow and sought speedy redressal. Later the team inspected health facilities at SDH Zainpora and instructed the doctors to provide quality health care to the and free medicines to patients.
