Another lesson for PDP

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti recently stirred the hornet’s nest by demanding action against an Army Major, who had allegedly beaten up a youth in Pulwama district.
Mehbooba Mufti visited SMHS hospital in Srinagar and enquired about the health of the injured youth. She urged the Governor Satya Pal Malik and General Officer Commanding of Srinagar based 15 Corps to look into the matter. However, Governor Malik dismissed her request by stating that “no one should take her seriously” as she is used of “throwing tantrums.”
Jammu and Kashmir Governor issuing a “politically loaded” statement evoked sharp reaction from the PDP leaders, who came out in support of their president. They accused Governor Malik of “belittling” the office he is holding. In fact party leaders had not expected that Governor Malik would reject Mehbooba’s demand. It seems they were still under the illusion that Delhi takes them seriously and would direct the Army to look into the matter but it did not happen. By now PDP should understand that people sitting in the national capital value only those people who talk in their language and don’t raise questions over their actions.
Since the day PDP-BJP alliance has broken, saffron party has tried to convey it to the people that entering into an alliance with the PDP was a “big mistake” and by pulling the plug in J&K, BJP rectified the mistake. In fact BJP has discredited PDP. Mehbooba Mufti is trying her best to regain her lost ground by reaching out to people but the BJP is not providing her any space by projecting her as a “non-entity.” The party (PDP) which had emerged a viable alternative for the people of Kashmir just few years ago is paying a heavy price for sharing power with BJP.
