Malik arrested, Mirwaiz, Geelani under house arrest

Srinagar, Feb 3: Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Mohammad Yaseen Malik was on Sunday taken into custody while Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq remained under house arrest in Srinagar, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation of various development projects this afternoon.
Modi, who is on a day-long visit to state, visited Leh and Jammu and will arrive here this afternoon.
A spokesman of the JKLF said that Malik was arrested from his Maisuma near here this morning. He said he has been lodged in police station Kothibagh.
Mirwaiz remained under house arrest since early Saturday morning. Security forces and police personnel remained deployed outside his Nigeen house to prevent him leading any protest march today.
Similarly, Geelani also remained under house arrest for the past several months. Personnel of security force and police remained deployed outside his Hyderpora residence.
