Jammu and Kashmir government only paying one month extra salary to 114 employees for performing election duty has left the others fuming. When Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies polls were announced last year the government had promised its employees that they would be paid one month extra salary as bonus for election duty. This announcement had led to many employees coming forward and taking part in the election process with enthusiasm.
Holding Panchayat and ULB polls has been the major achievement of the Governor’s administration as the erstwhile PDP-BJP political regime failed to get these elections held during its tenure.
Its unfortunate that the government employees who were promised extra bonus for working overtime have been left in lurch and it looks like that the government has pushed the issue under the carpet. Till now the government has maintained silence over the issue. No one has spoken about it nor has any order been issued about whether the employees would be given the extra salary or not.
Recently government released the extra salary in favour of 114 employees, including the top officials of particular departments. This has disappointed the other employees, who were waiting for the bonus.
The Jammu and Kashmir government needs to pay some attention towards this issue and fulfill its promise to the employees, who performed the election duty. This would boast their morale and they would get ready to take part in the forthcoming parliamentary and assembly polls with fervor and enthusiasm. If government remains silent it would mean that it’s not interested in fulfilling the commitment it had made to its employees. Ball is in the court of the government and it has to decide.
