Train service resumes in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 27: Train service resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended on Saturday for security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists have called for a general strike yesterday, when country celebrated R-Day (RD).
We have resumed all train runs in the Kashmir valley after a fresh advisory was received last night from police, a senior railway official said.
He said therefore, train will run on Budgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region today. Similarly train will chug on Srinagar-Budgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir track.
The official said railway authorities are acting on the advice of local administration, particularly police who are taking decision keeping in view the safety and security of the passengers, railway staff and property.
He said in the past during strikes and demonstrations, railway property was damaged in the valley.
The train service has become very popular in the Kashmir valley as it is being considered cheap, fast and safe against other mode of transport.
