Madurai, Jan 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said people who have cheated and looted the country will be brought to justice regardless of whether they are in India or abroad. Modi’s statement should be seen in the backdrop of reports that the Centre was moving ahead with its plan to bring back economic offenders from a foreign country.
Addressing a public meeting here, Modi said action against corruption had created waves across the country.
He said the government was taking all efforts to take education and jobs to the poor and would ensure 10% reservation for economically weaker sections in the general category. “But some people in Tamil Nadu are spreading false information among people for personal and political gains. People should ignore such negativity,” he said.
Modi said work was on to establish on medical college in every three Lok Sabha constituencies in the country. It would also help towards education and creation more jobs.
He said the Union govt was focussing on preventive healthcare. “Rural sanitation which was 38% in 2014 has reached 98% now. We have built more than nine crore toilets in the country. Forty seven lakh toilets have been constructed in Tamil Nadu alone. Swachh Bharat has become a people’s movement,” he added
The Prime Minister said a long-pending wish of the people in region would be fulfilled by the introduction of ultramodern Tejas train which will run between Madurai and Chennai.
He said the Centre was focusing on development of ports. “Tuticorin port is an icon and engine for the economy growth of Tamil Nadu. Given its strategic location, it can become important transshipment port in south India,” he said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here and said AIIMS in Delhi has created a brand name in healthcare. “With AIIMS in Madurai, we can say that the AIIMS brand of healthcare has been taken to all parts of the country from Kanyakumari to Kashmir to Madurai, from Guwahati to Gujarat,” the Prime Minister said.
Modi also inaugurated super specialty sections in medical colleges in Madurai, Thanjavur and Tirunelveli.
The Prime Minister said the centre was committed to improving healthcare in the country. “The NDA government is giving priority to health sector so that healthcare is affordable. We have supported upgradation of healthcare facilities across India,” he said.
