Jammu, Jan 27: Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) Hakeem Yaseen has castigated the authorities for restricting journalists to cover R-day function at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Sonwar Srinagar yesterday.
In a statement, Hakeem Yaseen while condemning anti-media approach of the authorities has said that repeated incidents of curbing freedom of press in the state especially in Kashmir was a matter of great concern.
“Barring journalist from covering Republic day function at Srinagar yesterday was highly condemnable,” Hakeem Yaseen said while urging the authorities at the helm of affairs to desist from anti journalist approach in future. He said journalistic fraternity-both working for print and electronic media in the state is doing a commendable job under the prevailing stressful conditions by putting their lives at the risk. He said that barring fourth estate from performing professional duty on one pretext or the other was against the fundamentals of the Constitution. (KNS)
