Lok Sabha, Assembly polls together?

Speculations are rife that Ministry of Home Affairs has sought the ground report from the stakeholders and the security agencies to hold the assembly elections along with the parliamentary polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
If the parliamentary polls and assembly elections are held together in J&K it would mean that political parties would be left with a very small time to prepare for the polls.
National Conference, PDP and Congress have already gone into election mode and are trying to reach out to the voters but till now these parties are unsure about when the elections would be held.
Holding elections in Kashmir have always been a challenge for the Election Commission of India and the security agencies. But this time around the challenge seems tougher as the militancy has resurfaced, especially in south Kashmir. However, Governor’s administration holding panchayat and urban local bodies polls without any major incident in Kashmir could encourage the authorities to go ahead with the idea of holding the assembly polls in J&K.
BJP and PDP are the only two parties which would want the assembly polls to be deferred as both the parties need time to settle down. PDP is grappling with number of issues. Top PDP leaders have left the party and a few have been expelled. So PDP would need some more time to regroup its cadres and find new candidates. On the other hand BJP also knows that it also needs sometime to address its constituency in Jammu region and if the parliamentary polls are held first these would depict the mood of the voters. But NC, Congress and other parties would want parliamentary polls and assembly elections to be held together as these parties know it very well that anti-incumbency factor would go in their favour.
