Elderly person injured after fall from roof, pregnant women rescued in Kargil

Kargil, Jan 22: An elderly person who was injured after he fell down from roof top of his house during snow clearance and a pregnant women were rescued by police from cut off areas, a police spokesman said here on Tuesday afternoon.
He said Police Station Drass, second coldest place in the world after Siberia, received information telephonically that a pregnant woman is held as all the routes were blocked due to heavy snowfall and needs to be moved out immediately for medical treatment.
He said on receiving this information, a police team lead by Station House Officer (SHO) Tsewang Nurboo rushed to the spot along with an ambulance from Sub District Hospital (SDH), Drass and a JCB from BRO.
The team evacuated expecting mother to SDH, Drass through tough terrain made precarious by heavy snowfall. Later the lady delivered a baby safely at the hospital, he said.
Spokesman said that in another incident, Police Post Sankoo received information telephonically that an elderly man Mohammad Ali son of Mohammad Ibrahim resident of Khalampora, Sankoo fell from the roof top of his house while clearing the snow.
He said on receipt of this information, a police party led by In-charge Police Post Sankoo Mohammad Sultan Wazir rushed to the spot and rescued the injured evacuating him to CHC Sankoo despite blockage of all routes due to overnight snowfall.
General public of Kargil have applauded timely intervention and swift action of respective police teams for saving three precious lives.
