3 cops injured in Srinagar grenade attack

Srinagar, Jan 17: Three cops including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of JK police were injured in a grenade attack near Zero Bridge in Rajbagh area of Srinagar city on Thursday afternoon.
An Assistant Sub Inspector and two Traffic policemen sustained splinter injuries and were evacuated to SMHS hospital for treatment when militants hurled a grenade on police party near Zero Bridge in Rajbagh, police official told Valley Media Service.
The injured cops have been identified as Iqbal Singh (ASI of JKAP 14 Bn) and traffic policemen Haris Manzoor (SPO) and Sanullah (Head Constable).
Sources said ASI Iqbal has sustained splinter injuries to both of his legs, Haris suffered injury to back side of his neck and Sanullah suffered injuries in his right leg.
Government forces cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the attackers soon after the attack.
Police has registered a case in this regard under FIR No. 12/2019 U/s 307 RPC.
Soon after the grenade attack, police reached on the spot at Zero Bridge in Srinagar today.
“On the arrival, officers found out that three cops were injured in the militant attack,” police spokesman said.
The injured include an ASI and Two cops who were deployed for managing the vehicular traffic movement as the area witnesses the huge traffic rush.
The injured have been shifted to the hospitals for the treatment of their injuries. They are stated to be stable.
Police has registered a case in this regard and officers continue to work to access the full circumstances of the incident.

Meanwhile, Jaish e Mohammad (JeM) claimed the responsibility of the attack. (VMS)
