Grenade lobbed at CRPF bunker in Lal Chowk

Srinagar, Jan 11: Militants on Friday evening hurled a hand grenade towards a picket of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at historic Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, Srinagar.
Official sources said that militants tossed a hand grenade towards CRPF picket at 1845 hrs in the civil lines. “We are collecting information about the damage”, they said.
People in the area, including women and children, ran for safety, an eyewitness said.
Traffic came to halt in the busy area. The shopkeepers took shelter inside their shops.
Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has claimed the responsibility of the grenade attack.
A JeM spokesperson Mohammad Hassan said the attack was in revenge for its slain commander Nasir Khan alias Abdul Rehman, news agency GNS quoted from a Jaish statement.
