Getting ready for another wet weekend

Getting ready for another wet weekend

Weatherman predicting yet another spell of rain and snow on weekend in Kashmir has put the entire official machinery in the state on alert. People at the helm have chaired high level meetings during the past two days to ensure that people don’t face any difficulties.
On papers everything has been put at place and the people at the top have been made to believe that snow won’t disrupt the normal life in the Valley. One needs to appreciate the Governor’s administration for being ready with the plan to deal with the crisis. It seems that authorities want to ensure that they are not caught napping this time around.
If the snowfall is heavy it would be a “litmus test” for the Power Development Department, which has been grappling with number of issues. The people across Kashmir are up in arms against the PDD for resorting to unscheduled power cuts in metered as well as unmetered areas. The PDD would have to ensure that electricity is not disrupted.
At this point of time the authorities are claiming that snow clearance machines have already been put at place and every effort would be put to keep the main roads clear. Mere assurances won’t work they should be able to deliver during testing times.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the prediction would come true or not. If the Western Disturbance passes without causing any major disruption then the authorities can relax but if it causes major disruption it would mean that people at the helm would have to work overtime to ensure that commoners don’t suffer. Coming weekend is going to be tough for the people as well as the administration so everyone should remain prepared to face yet another spell of snow and rains.
