Ashutosh Aman creates history, breaks Bishan Singh Bedi’s 44-year-old record in Ranji Trophy

Bihar’s left-arm spinner Ashutosh Aman scripted history by breaking a long-standing record owned by the legendary Bishan Singh Bedi.
The ongoing Ranji Trophy season has seen some exceptional performances from the domestic stars. While there have been a number of batting prospects who have stolen the limelight with their sublime performances, there have been quite a few top-notch bowling performances as well. On Wednesday, Bihar’s left-arm spinner Ashutosh Aman achieved a remarkable feat to enter record books.
Aman picked his 65th wicket in the match between Bihar and Manipur on Wednesday to overtake former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi as the highest wicket-taker in a Ranji Trophy season. The 32-year-old dismissed Sagatpam Singh of Manipur to complete his 65h scalp in the match and overtook Bedi, who had taken 64 wickets for Delhi in 1974-75 season.
He now holds the record for most wickets taken in a Ranji Trophy season by any bowler. Aman is employed with the Indian Air Force and hails from Bihar’s Gaya. After the conclusion of the third day’s play between Bihar and Manipur in Patna, Aman had 68 wickets to his name at a brilliant average of 6.48 better than Bedi’s average of 8.53.
Aman helped Bihar beat Manipur by three wickets in the Ranji Trophy Round 9, Plate clash. He finished the game with figures of 39/4 and 71/7 in the two innings respectively. He was the pick of the bowlers for Bihar taking a total of 11 wickets in the game.
Manipur were bundled out for 156 runs in their first innings as Aman ran through the lower-middle order of the Yashpal Singh-led side. Mayank Raghav (79) was the highest run-scorer for Manipur in the first innings. In reply, Bihar scored 257 in their first innings taking a healthy lead of 101 runs.
