Srinagar, Jan 9: About 30 Sarpanchs and Panchs from the minority community have resigned en-masse in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where a Sikh youth was killed by unidentified gunmen on Friday.
However, the authorities are yet to accept their resignation, All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) said on Wednesday.
“All those Sikhs who recently won Sarpanchs and Panchs elections, about 25 to 30 in number, have resign en-masse in Pulwama in view of security concerns following killing of a Sikh youth in Tral on Friday. The youth, identified as Simranjeet Singh, alias Suman Singh, is the brother of a sarpanch,” APSCC said.
Meanwhile, expressing anguish on the alleged silence of separatists over the killing of a Sikh youth by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir’s Tral, the APSCC said some vested interests are trying to harm the centuries old communal harmony in the Valley.
“Even though United Jihad Council (UJC) has said that the youth was killed by agencies’ but they must use sources to identify those involved in the killing,” APSCC chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The Sikh body said that a youth from minority community was killed in Tral but it is unfortunate that the Hurriyat Conference (HC) leaders had so far maintained silence over it.
“Some vested interests are trying to harm the centuries old communal harmony in the Valley, but we won’t allow them to succeed as the people irrespective of their religion are living in the society in unison and are helping each other besides sharing their grief and happiness,” he said.
He said delegation of APSCC visited the residence of the slain youth where they expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for their courage to bear this irreparable loss.
Raina further said that there is anger among the minority community here over the silence maintained by the Hurriyat camp over the killing. “In case such acts will continue then the agencies who are working for dividing and migrating the minority community enmasse will get succeed,” he said.
