Srinagar, Jan 8: The summer capital, Srinagar, received fresh light snowfall on Tuesday morning after there was about two degree improvement in the minimum temperature.
However, the upper reaches also experienced fresh snowfall since early this morning in the Kashmir valley, where a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is approaching the region which could result in Fairly Widespread (FWS) rain or snow from January 10 till 13. After witnessing near normal minimum temperature, Srinagar witnessed light snowfall this morning. Roof and tree tops besides open field had turned white for a brief period due to snowfall. However, snow melted as the day progressed.
A Met department spokesman said this morning that there was improvement in the night temperature in Srinagar, where day remained chilly due to icy cold winds and cloudy sky though sun is playing hide and seek.
He said the minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 2 which was slightly below normal of minus 1.9 degree. It was minus 4 degree yesterday, when water bodies, including Dal Lake and water taps were frozen.
He said the sky would be generally cloudy in Srinagar, where the maximum temperature would be around 4 degree today.
Hills surrounding Srinagar were under snow carpet, clearly visible from different parts of the city and Dal Lake.
