PDP crumbling under its own weight

PDP crumbling under its own weight

Peoples Democratic Party led by the former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has suffered yet another jolt as another leader and former MLA Chadoora Javed Mustafa Mir has resigned from the party.
The banner of revolt in the PDP was raised by Imran Ansari and his uncle Abid Ansari soon after the PDP-BJP coalition crumbled under its own weight in June 2018. Both the leaders alleged that PDP had turned into “Family Democratic Party” as the party affairs and the government were run by the selected family members and the “yes-men” of the former Chief Minister.
The fall of PDP-BJP coalition in Jammu and Kashmir has spelled the doom for the PDP in Kashmir. Since the day government has fallen, the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is grappling with number of issues. She has made desperate attempts to keep the party intact but her efforts have not yielded the desired results. Among the rebels she was only able to convince the veteran party leader and former deputy chief minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh to stay with the party. Others, including Haseeb Drabu, Muhammad Abbas Wani, Bashrat Bukhari and Yasir Reshi, have said goodbye to the PDP.
During her visit to Jammu last month Mehbooba told her workers that the deserters were “parachuted entries” into the PDP and they should not take their exit seriously. She had even predicted that more people would leave PDP in coming days. Her prediction has come true as three-time MLA from Chadoora constituency in central Kashmir Javed Mustafa Mir too has said goodbye.
Fall of the PDP-BJP government and dissolution of the Assembly has led to PDP falling like pack of cards and has put a question mark over Mehbooba’s leadership.
