Water bodies freeze as chill revisits Kashmir

Srinagar more colder than Pahalgam-Gulmarg

Srinagar, Dec 31: Water bodies, including famed Dal Lake, freezes yet again as chill revisited Kashmir, where summer capital, Srinagar was colder than ski resort of Gulmarg and health resort of Pahalgam after Western Disturbances (WD) eludes the region.
The sky would be generally cloudy which could result in light rain or snow during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, a Met department spokesman said here on Monday afternoon.
After witnessing above normal mercury on Sunday, the minimum temperature recorded considerable drop and settled at 4.5 degree below normal in Srinagar, where parts of Dal Lake and other water bodies besides taps were again frozen again this morning.
Against yesterdays minus 2.4 degree, the minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 6.6 degree which was more colder than Pahalgam and Gulmarg, where it was minus 5.5 degree and minus 5 degree respectively, he said.
Parts of the Dal Lake were again frozen, particularly near banks and interior parts due to chilly weather conditions. The authorities have directed people not to alk on frozen surface of the Lake which could be proven dangerous.
The other water bodies were also frozen in the city, where people in some areas faced water shortage this morning. However, as the day progress the frozen water bodies and taps started melting.
However, there is a good news for the residents of Srinagar, where light rain or snow could occur during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 7 and minus 2 degree respectively.
