Peoples Democratic Party is making all preparations to commemorate the death anniversary of its founder late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7. This day is very important for the PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti as she will come to know how many party leaders are still with her.
Since the day Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has been dissolved nearly ten top leaders of the party have said goodbye to the PDP and speculations are rife that few more PDP stalwarts are planning to call it quits.
During the past few days PDP leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti, have chaired many meetings in Srinagar and Jammu to ensure that PDP displays its strength on January 7 and all the leaders attend the programme.
The PDP president has constituted a core team for organizing the event and has directed her loyalists to persuade everyone to join the event. Many people even within the PDP believe that if the disgruntled leaders stay away it could add to the woes of Mehbooba Mufti.
The PDP rebels who have left the party have already brought Mehbooba Mufti and her leadership qualities under scanner. They blamed her for PDP being in mess and walked out. If another rebel group which is being talked about these days raises the banner of revolt against Mehbooba then it would mean more problems.
The death anniversary of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed would be the test of loyalty for those who are believed to be at the edge. If they stay away it would mean that PDP led by Mehbooba Mufti would have to look for new candidates for most assembly constituencies as their absence would prove that they are no more interested in the party led by Mehbooba Mufti.
