Christmas celebrated with religious fervor in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 25: Christmas, birthday of Jesus Christ, was on Tuesday celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety and enthusiasm in the Kashmir valley, where the mercury remained below freezing point due to dry weather condition.
Christians, including women and children, in colourful dresses joined special prayers in Churchs in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where special prayers were held for return of peace and prosperity in the valley.
However, for the second year there was no snowfall on Christmas in the valley, where special arrangements were made at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg for the festival. This year the number of people who participated in the Christmas at Gulmarg were less as compared to previous years.
Special prayers were organized at Holy Family Catholic Church at Maulana Azad Road near here, where members of the Christian families participated.
Father Jobi of the Church in his message on the occasion said special prayers were held for peace in the Kashmir valley. He said the day was very important for the entire world as on this day Jesus was born to bring peace.
He said “I prayed for the peace in Kashmir as we all know that Kashmir is a place where we have lot of trials and tribulations and tensions. Let this Christmas bring love and peace in Kashmir,” Father Jobi said adding Jesus in his life preached only love and peace and lived for peace only.
