Kokernag, Larnoo resident protest against erratic power supply

Kokernag , Dec 24: Habitants of various villages in Breng Kokernag, Larnoo areas held protest demonstration against PDD for failing to provide adequate electricity in their areas. They raised slogans against PDD and demanded proper electricity supply in their areas.
The locals of Breng, Kokernag, Damhaal and Hakura area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district allege that the Power Development Department (PDD) failed to provide adequate electricity to their areas. The residents said that the Power Development Department (PDD) is subjecting them to unscheduled power cuts.
Locals said that with the unscheduled power cuts in the area, the people are being forced to take to streets. The authorities assured us to redress their grievance but the promises done by the authorities proved hoax,” he said. They said that they are facing immense hardships due to hide and seek of electricity in their area.
“We have been facing acute load shedding from the last two weeks. As the temp is decreasing day by day, we are facing problems because of frequent power cuts,” said the locals.
According to reports, Habitants of upper Breng Kokernag also faces the same problem from many days especially from the start of winter season in Kashmir. Electricity is playing ‘Hide and Seek’ in hundreds of villages of Breng Kokernag.
“We are suffering a lot due to this game of unscheduled power curtailment, as we are preparing for the various examinations,” said students
“We are suffering the most due to the frequent power cuts. We aren’t able to study in the evening hours that too at a time when exams are on our head,” said Nasir Bashir a student.
The people are facing lot of problems due to power shortage in Kokernag, Larnoo villages. Habittants of Larnoo, Khreeti, Kokernag, Vailoo, Lessu, Gavran, Hakura, Damhaal and adjoining villages of Breng Kokernag.
The people appealed the higher authorities to look into the matter and solve their problem as soon as possible.
Threatening to stage protests against PDD department, the residents said, “If the unnecessary power cuts won’t end, we will took on roads.
When contacted AEE PDD Fayaz Ahmad, he said that due to overload we cut power supply for few hours in a day and we try our best to provide scheduled power supply in these areas.
“The whole valley is facing this problem. People are using boilers and heaters during evening hours which results in overloading of grid stations. People need to cooperate with us,” he said.
