Handloom Deptt organizes awareness programme in Sumbal

Sumbal, Dec 20: The Department of Handloom on Thursday organised a day-long awareness program for weavers and artisans of the district.
On the occasion, Assistant Director Handloom Ali Mohammad Mir who was the chief guest of the program informed the artisans and weavers about various central and state-sponsored schemes and urged them to avail the benefits of these schemes.
Mir said the aim of the program was to create awareness about these schemes so that artisans and weavers get themselves registered in the Department.
He said the artisans usually do not register with the Department and later they face hardships at the time of exigencies. He said the Department will soon conduct a drive to register artisans so that the welfare schemes can be implemented in letter and spirit.
He said the government wants to give direct benefit to the artisans and weavers and abolish the middleman-ship.
The participants were informed that the government is in communication with the online shopping portals so that weavers can sell their merchandise to the global customer directly without any middleman.
On the occasion, a deputation from Hajin urged the department to organise such camps in Hajin area also so that they get themselves registered and avail benefits from various welfare schemes.
