District level awareness camp under FMD control organized in Anantnag

Anantnag, Dec 20: Department of Animal Husbandry Anantnag today organised a one-day District level awareness camp under Foot Mouth Diseases (FMD) control at District Veterinary Hospital Anantnag.
The camp was attended by a large number of progressive farmers of the district associated with Animal Husbandry Sector.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Showkat Ahmad Rather said that due to FMD, s large number livestock population of the district is affected and the aim of organizing the camp is to aware them about the preventions to control the diseases. He also said that persons related to the sector should cooperate with the department for controlling the diseases in the district. The ADC also said that the programme has been started in the district from 17th November 2018 and a livestock population of more than 21 lakhs is being targeted under the FMD Control Programme out of which 60 per cent achievements has been recorded so far in the district.
The Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Anantnag Dr Mohammad Saleem also spoke on the occasion and said that FMD Control Programme was launched in the country during 2003 and 54 districts were selected for inclusion of FMD Control Campaign. The farmers were made aware about the preventions for controlling the diseases and were asked to coordinate with field functionaries of Animal Husbandry Department who are making door to door surveys.
The camp was also addressed by Joint Director Animal Husbandry, Dr Tahir Hussain Beigh and other senior officers & doctors of the department.
Later the ADC also distributed the mineral mixture and other medicines free of cost among the progressive farmers related with Animal Husbandry Sector.
